The crime stats revealed that 1,014 children were murdered in the country in 2018/19, which is 29 cases more than the previous financial year.

On June 23 2017 Capetonians gathered at st Georges Cathedral to respond to increasing rate of child murders, it was as a result of this that the Western Cape Child Protection Collaborative was formed.

In 2019 the brutal murder and rape of Uyinene Mrwetyana took place, causing an outcry against Gender Based Violence. A year later we continue to call for the protection of women and children.
